Pastel painting and portraits

In 1995, Simone Bingemer devoted herself exclusively to portrait painting, a long nourished wish. Her psychological intuition for the portrayed combined with the plentitude of original ideas and professional skills make her paintings appear in a unique and seldom-found liveliness. „The similarity lies in the eye of the beholder. There is no such thing as a perfect resemblance of painting and model. Therefore portraits always are interpretations.”

The beginning brainstorming phase is of high importance to Simone Bingemer. Many photos are taken in this phase. From that collection of photos, she extracts a pencil sketch which is then enlarged and transferred to the canvas. For the time being, a personal conversation during the photo shoot creates an atmosphere of privacy and nearness. That direct contact to the model and his / her environment form the foundation of ideas which all are incorporated into the painting. That way, portraits are created in which the essence of a personality is accentuated by means of only a few requisites and subtle coloring but nevertheless are able to confront the spectator with a mystery.
